Conservation Photography in and for New Zealand

New Zealand draws photographers from this country and around the world to enjoy unique experiences and to capture the essence of its magnificent scenery and varied and extraordinary wildlife. Photographs of those landscapes and wildlife bring awareness, awareness brings empathy and empathy brings a desire to protect.

Conservation Photography NZ explores the various approaches, aspects and purposes that have combined and continue to combine to be conservation photography – photographs that have inspired conservation gains from our recent history, particularly campaigns that have resulted in landscape scale protection such as Manapouri and the creation of the Paparoa National Park, and continue to inspire conservation in New Zealand today. Key photographers are featured and the enduring value of photography to bring about conservation outcomes is explored.
